News briefs: Pop-up clothing sale on tap at Sharpsburg thrift store

The nonprofit Second Harvest Community Thrift Store will host a pop-up clothing sale on Aug. 15 in Sharpsburg to help families with back-to-school shopping by offering low prices on essentials such as shoes, jeans and tops.
The event will be 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the parking lot at 624 Clay St.
Clothes and shoes for children ages 5 to 18 will be for sale at slashed prices, Executive Director Bonnie DeMotte said.

Blawnox Council will have its monthly meeting Aug. 13 on Zoom.
Anyone interested can join the 6:30 p.m. meeting by signing in online or calling by phone.

The sixth annual Caring for K9 scrapbooking fundraiser to benefit Indiana Township’s police dog will be Sept. 12.
It will be 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the town hall, 3710 Saxonburg Boulevard. The cost is $40.
Participants will each get a 6-foot table to abide by social distance guidelines. Dinner will be provided.

Aspinwall officials are reminding people to pick up after their dogs.
Borough staff is getting complaints that dog waste bags are being dropped in tree buckets, other people’s trash cans and dumpsters.
It is a violation of borough code and comes with a fine of $100-$600 per offense, Manager Melissa O’Malley said.
