Officer Joe Risher, of the Allegheny County Police, demonstrates the proper way to adjust the car seat for Gwendlyn Showalter, 2, and her dad, Daniel, at the Riverview Children’s Center car seat safety check in Verona on April 15, 2019.

Parkview EMS will host a free community car seat check-up this week.

The event is by appointment only and will run 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday. Seats will be inspected by a certified child passenger safety technician.

According to the Centers for Disease Control, children should be buckled into a rear-facing seat from birth to age 2, or until they reach weight guidelines; children who outgrow rear-facing seats should be buckled in a forward-facing car seat until at least age 5.

Parkview’s station is at 200 South Margery Drive, O’Hara.

To schedule, call 412-449-1080.
