Long-term closures are planned for a portion of Sixth Street in Sharpsburg.

PennDOT officials said starting Monday at 7 a.m. the street will close between Clay and Penn streets through Monday, Dec. 13.

Here is the detour:

• From Main Street, take Ninth Street north;

• Turn left onto Penn Street;

• Follow Penn Street to Sixth Street.

Officials said the work on Sixth Street is part of a $3.83 million drainage improvement project. Crews will work to reduce combined sewer overflows and remove storm water flow from the Ravine Street stream and Route 28.

Additional work includes pavement reconstruction, curb ramp construction, utility adjustments, and pavement markings.

Officials said several local roadways from Sixth Street to Eighth Street as well as Main Street will have single-lane restriction during off-peak hours in order to allow work to occur.

These local roads will be closed entirely in phases, according to PennDOT.

A 23-day closure will also occur on Main Street, requiring traffic to be detoured.

The overall project is expected to be completed in fall 2022.

More information will be released as the project develops.
