Children who attended a four-day camp at Sharpsburg Community Library got an up-close look at how the human body works.

GSK Science in the Summer, sponsored by Carnegie Science Center, was aimed at giving students a glimpse at biological systems that make humans alike and those elements that interact to create differences, said Sara Mariacher, the library’s director.

“On one of the days, we explored the circulatory system with sheep hearts,” she said.

Facilitator Aly Toy led hands-on lessons for elementary school-aged children on DNA, food as fuel, oxygen and energy.

The camp took place July 22-25 at the library on Main Street.
