Roots of Faith’s VBS a success

Roots of Faith’s vacation bible school had children roaring with laughter, friendship and lessons on Christianity through themed activities at “God’s Wild Kingdom Camp.”
The Rev. Scott Shaffer, pastor at Roots’ sister church Faith United Methodist, summed up the successful program by saying, “Life is Wild, God is Good.”
About a dozen children, ages three to pre-teen, attended from Aug. 5-9 at the site at 800 Main St. in Sharpsburg.
Free breakfast was followed by games, bible lessons and outdoor fun.
“The children learned about how nothing in all creation can stop God from loving them,” Associate Pastor Ben Phipps said.
The camp, he said, is an example of how the church seeks to bring people of all backgrounds into deeper relationships with God and one another.
“Children had the opportunity to discover that God loves them no matter what, challenging them to consider how they can extend that love towards others,” Phipps said.
Some of the youngsters finished out the week by singing camp songs for church-goers at Sunday services.
”They read scriptures and invited the congregation to experience a taste of the fun and learning they had experienced all week,” Shaffer said.
