Rotary honors 10 Shady Side Academy students for excellence

Shady Side Academy senior Erin Simard was awarded a $2,000 scholarship from the Rotary Club of Fox Chapel Area for living the club’s motto of “Service Above Self.”
The honor was given for her excellence in community service, club officials said, during a luncheon on May 8 at the Pittsburgh Field Club.
Nine other SSA seniors were honored by the Rotary for academics in specific disciplines. They are:
- World Languages: Matteo Secomandi
- History: Caitlin Mulvihill
- English: Caroline Barkman
- Computer Science: Aidan Shilling
- Math: Elise Lehman
- Visual Arts: Hank Lin
- Performing Arts: Aidan Krell
- Musical Arts: Amanda Zeng
- Science: Ryan Jochims
Former SSA faculty member Bill McConnel, who serves as the Rotary’s youth development committee chair, presented the awards. Other Rotarians, including SSA alumni Tom Cosgrove, Jeff Todd and Wally Jenkins, were on hand to talk with the honorees.
Students were accompanied by History Department Chair Kyle Smith.
