Fox Chapel Area School District’s Fairview Elementary School third-grader Nora Diven won second place in the third-grade division of the Pittsburgh area U.S. Department of Energy’s National Energy Technology Laboratory’s annual Earth Day Poster Contest.

The theme of this year’s contest was “Invest in Our Planet. What will you do?”

Students were invited to design posters featuring their favorite ways to restore the Earth and its precious resources. Nora’s poster encourages people to “make our earth a better place” by planting more trees and flowers, and picking up trash and throwing it away.

The contest was open to elementary students from NETL’s laboratory sites in Pittsburgh, West Virginia and Oregon.

The first-, second-, third- and fourth-place winning posters were sent to the U.S. Department of Energy headquarters in Washington, D.C., for display.
