A Shady Side Academy graduate was named captain of the U.S. Naval Academy’s ice hockey team for the 2024-25 season.
Porter Markel, a 2021 alum, served as captain of the ice hockey and baseball teams during his senior year in high school.
The Fox Chapel resident is a defenseman on the hockey team and was an alternate captain last season as a junior.
The Navy team plays in Division 1 of the American Collegiate Hockey Association and went to nationals in 2022 and 2023.
