Shady Side Academy students were honored by Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh Foundation for stepping up efforts to help sick children.

The SSA Striders team, consisting of students and teachers, raised nearly $25,000 for the 2018 Walk for Children’s and plans to participate again in the 2019 walk on June 1.

The team earned the Youth Fundraiser Award which honors the generous spirit of children ages 18 and younger.

“We could not be more grateful for the success SSA Striders achieved last year and the example they set, which I hope others will be inspired to follow,” Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh Foundation President Rachel Petrucelli said.

Six student members of the team’s 2018 young leadership committee attended the foundation’s Corporate and Community Giving Recognition Dinner on May 8 at Rodef Shalom to receive the award.

They are: alumnus Clayton Guyaux, juniors Avery Guyaux and Andrew Meyers, freshman Kira Meyers, sixth-grader Reese Ruttenberg and third-grader Brooklyn Ruttenberg.

The 2019 Walk for Children’s will begin at 10 a.m. June 1 at Schenley Park.
