The borough is seeking candidates to fill the newly created human rights commission. Applications are due Feb. 12, 2021.

Sharpsburg council has released the list of roads to be targeted in this year’s road paving program.

Members are eyeing five streets for improvement, with bids accepted this month.

If approved, the project will include 15th Street from Main to South Canal, Church Street from Main to Penn, Short Alley from Cecil to South Canal, a portion of 19th and Station Street from Main Street to Bonaventure Way.

The borough’s $2.5 million budget includes about $80,000 for road work, Manager Bill Rossey said.

In other news:

• Residents will get a glimpse at new park designs prior to council’s approval.

Council President Brittany Reno suggested a public review for new equipment at the 16th Street Playground and Kennedy Park. Both sites are in line for major upgrades, much of which will be paid by grants and donations.

“We are currently preparing the necessary bid documents and paperwork for the playgrounds,” Rossey said.

Council expects to put the work out for bid by the end of March with construction beginning in June.

• The borough is seeking candidates to fill the newly created human rights commission. The five-member commission will have two people that serve three years, two that serve two years and one that serves one year.

Members cannot hold political office and must be borough residents or own a business or property.

Letters of interest and resumes will be accepted until 4 p.m. on Feb. 12 at 1611 Main St., Pgh, PA 15215.
