A Sharpsburg gallery will host a mixed media exhibition that explores sensation and perception through work by 18 neurodivergent artists.
“Sensational: Observations on Sensory Processing Through a Neurodivergent Lens,” will run through June 4 at Atithi Studios along North Canal Street.
The event is a collaboration between Evolve Coaching and Atithi Studios and is curated by Onyx Green, part of Evolve Coaching’s network of neurodiverse artists and Atithi’s gallery director.
Neurodivergent describes people whose brains work differently from what society has prescribed to be typical.
Artists are featured from across the Pittsburgh area.
One common aspect of the neurodivergent experience is sensory perception and processing, Green said.
Some people experience heightened sensitivity to stimuli while others require a certain amount of input to feel comfortable. These attributes vary from one person to the next, and shape how neurodiverse people experience and interact with the world, Green said.
The gallery at Atithi is open 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursdays through Sundays.
