The former Fox Chapel Village, built in 1953, stood on the corner of Freeport and Fox Chapel roads in O’Hara. It was razed in 2007 to make way for a GetGo.

Here’s a spot that thousands of people pass by each day at the corner of Fox Chapel and Freeport roads in O’Hara.

It might surprise some to learn the property has a lively history, dating back to the 1800s when it housed The Meadows estate of U.S. Sen. James Ross.

In 1953, Fox Chapel Village was constructed.

By 1961, it was occupied by Claber’s discount department store, which sold a variety of goods from hardware to fish to baseball gloves.

In 1983, the Busy Beaver home center took over and built an extension to accommodate shoppers’ needs.

Fox Chapel Village ultimately was torn down in 2007 to make way for GetGo.
