Sharpsburg officials hope volunteers do their part to beautify the borough on Earth Day.
The borough’s annual cleanup event is set from 9 a.m. to noon on April 22.
Volunteers can pick up safety vests, gloves and trash bags at the borough building, 1611 Main St.
Coffee and donuts will be served in the morning. Lunch will be provided at the end of the day.
About 200 people participated last year, and organizers are hoping to beat that number.
“The Earth Day Challenge clean-up is a fun and easy way for people to get outdoors, meet their neighbors, and do something good for the community and the planet at the same time,” Mayor Brittany Reno said. “In years past we’ve had a great turnout, and I’m optimistic that this year we’ll continue to grow our numbers of participating community members.”

The cleanup is not the only environmentally friendly event in Sharpsburg in April.
Tree planting with the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy is scheduled for 9 a.m. to noon on April 8.
People are encouraged to meet at 1014 Main St. to help plant trees and learn about different types of native trees, proper tree planting practices and tree care. All are welcome to volunteer at this planting, which will be held rain or shine.
