K-12 showcase at high school
Hampton High School will host an interactive K-12 showcase as part of Remake Learning Days 2023 on May 22 from 6 to 8 p.m.
The event, themed “The Future is Now!”, aims to engage students, parents and the public in world-class teaching and learning, innovative learning experiences, and future-driven learning opportunities.
Attendees will have the chance to immerse themselves in deeper learning and educational innovations through hands-on student- and teacher-led demonstrations. Additionally, they can tour the new Library Media Center and Studios, grab coffee and snacks at the student-run café, and purchase items created by middle and high school students through student start-up companies.

Depreciation Lands Museum celebrates
The Depreciation Lands Museum in Hampton is will celebrate its 50th anniversary on Friendship Day, May 21.
The festivities will take place at the Covenanter Church Building, with a continuous picture slide show on “The History of the Covenanters” presented by Matt Shipley. A special display of posters and items, including an original 1792 newspaper and a “Name This Item” table, will be available for viewing at the Deacon’s Tavern.
Hampton municipal manager Christopher Lochner will speak at 1:30 about the museum’s history. The Barn will showcase an original Conestoga Style Kramer Wagon, while self-guided tours of the DLM Cemetery will be available from 1 to 4.
Additionally, the Armstrong Log House, School House, Herb Garden, Blacksmith, Mercantile, Wood Shoppe and Wigwam features will be open for visitors to experience. Various vendors will be located throughout the grounds.
The museum is open from 1 to 4 p.m. every Sunday from May through October. For more information, visit dlmuseum.org.
Big Band music at church
The HPC Big Band has returned to entertain audiences with their sweet tunes spanning several decades, and everyone is invited to join.
Attendees are encouraged to bring their dancing shoes to an event that will take place on May 12 from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Professional instructor Jared Clemens will provide free swing dance lessons from 6:30 to 7:30, followed by live music.
Admission is $10 per person, and children 12 and under can enter for free. The event includes a live band, food and dance instruction.

Neighborhood Block Party
North Hills Community Outreach will host its eighth annual Neighborhood Block Party from 1-4 p.m. May 13.
Hundreds of supporters are expected to attend the event, which will take place at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, 1965 Ferguson Road, on the Hampton-McCandless line.
The family-focused gathering will feature various activities for children, such as games, a kids’ auction, dunk tank, balloon artist, caricaturist, face painting, bounce house and live music by the Variety Pack. Food from Wheelfish will also be available.
As Mother’s Day weekend coincides with the festivities, NHCO will honor moms by distributing individual bouquets with the assistance of Lilac & Fawn, a local florist. The event will be held under several large tents, and all proceeds will support NHCO’s critical services.

Cocktails & Cuisine
Crisis Center North’s signature fundraiser, Cocktails & Cuisine, is set to take place for the 16th year, bringing together foodies with a cause under the stars.
The outdoor tasting event will be held from 6 to 10 on May 12 at The Woodlands in Bradford Woods. Julie Grant, a member of CCN’s Paws for Empowerment Advisory Board and a Court TV personality, will return as event emcee.
Jazz vocalist Lisa Bleil will provide entertainment for the evening, joined by Benny Benack Jr. on horns and pianist John Burgh. Guests will have the opportunity to indulge in cocktails and cuisine from the region’s top restaurateurs, spirit purveyors and dessert creators.

Scrapbooking at library
Hampton Community Library will host an Intro to Scrapbooking program from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 15.
The first hour will focus on creating a simple page that can get you started scrapbooking or that you can take home and frame. Bring three or four pictures.
Marie Golio from Creative Memories will share, teach and support fellow scrapbookers and their goals.

Fundraising plant sale
The Ingomar Garden Club will hold its annual fundraising plant sale on May 20 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The sale will include perennials, annuals, hanging baskets, herbs, and vegetables, as well as a flea market.

The Hampton High School Class of 1973 will be holding its 50-year reunion from 6 to 10 p.m. Sept. 30 at North Park Lounge Cranberry, 20810 Route 19.

Vacation Bible school
Northmont United Presbyterian Church is conducting a vacation Bible school from 9 a.m. to noon June 12-16 for pre-kindergarten children through fifth grade.

Young Writers’ Institute
The University of Pittsburgh’s Western PA Writing Project will host its 10th annual Young Writers’ Institute from June 19-23 at Sing Sing Sing, 280 Market Lane, Suite 707, Pine Township.
The workshop is open to incoming fifth- through eighth-graders, and scholarships are available. Young adult fiction writer Caroline Carlson will be in attendance.
