Meal kits support nonprofit

Hampton High School graduate Abby Molinaro and Chef Justin Severino, co-owner of Morcilla restaurant, have cooked together three times at the annual TasteBuds event hosted by Best Buddies International.

Although they are unable to participate at TasteBuds this year, they both wanted to support Best Buddies and have teamed up once again, along with Nate Hobart, general manager and also co-owner, to create a Morcilla meal kit.

The kit features duck confit with mustard cream and chocolate soufflé cake for two. Cost is $110. Kits will be available for pickup Nov. 19 at the restaurant, 3519 Butler St., Lawrenceville. To place an order, visit morcillapittsburgh.com.

Best Buddies International is a nonprofit organization dedicated to establishing a global volunteer movement that creates opportunities for one-to-one friendships, integrated employment, leadership development, and inclusive living for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

‘One Night in Bethlehem’

Saints Martha and Mary Parish will host the annual “One Night in Bethlehem” family Christmas event from 6 to 8 p.m. Dec. 10 at the St. Catherine of Sweden social hall on Wildwood Road in Hampton.

Children ages 2 through 10 can participate in storytelling, crafts, games and a birthday party for Jesus. The evening concludes with an outdoor living Nativity scene, complete with Biblical characters and live animals.

Tickets, limited to the first 150 children, are $8 per child (children under 2 admitted at no charge) and can be purchased at the parish office or through the parish website. All children must be accompanied by an adult. Adult admission is free with a donation of a baby item for Lifeline of Southwestern Pennsylvania.

Fall leaf collection

Waste Management collects yard waste, including leaves in paper biodegradable bags, the third full week of each month, April through November, in Hampton.

Township officials acknowledge that for most property owners, storing leaf bags for once-a-month collection can be difficult. As a result, road crews will be collecting leaf bags only (paper biodegradable bags) through Dec. 9. The collection will take during the weeks that Waste Management does not pick up yard waste.

Please place your leaf bags at the curb by 6 a.m. the morning of your normal garbage/recycling day.

Community center reminder

The installation of a new gymnasium floor and walking track is taking place in the Hampton Community Center, with completion anticipated by Nov. 24.

Until then, the Community Center will remain open, but there will be no access to the gymnasium’s basketball courts and limited access to the track.

North Park road closure

The Allegheny Parks Department announced that Lake Shore Drive in North Park is closed to vehicular, bicycle and pedestrian traffic. The closure, which is expected to end in December, is required for slope stabilization work.

Other than the J.C. Stone Field parking lot, park visitors will not be able to access any facilities, including playgrounds, adjacent to Lake Shore Drive. Shelters accessed from the road will not be available to rent during the closure.

There will be no posted detours, but drivers are encouraged to use Walter Road to get around the closure. Cyclists and pedestrians looking for an alternate paved route within the park should consider using South Ridge Drive.

The project will be done in-house by crews from the county’s Parks Department and Department of Public Works.
