Trees are shedding leaves in earnest this time of year.

Fall leaf collection

Waste Management collects yard waste, including leaves in paper biodegradable bags, the third full week of each month, April through November, in Hampton.

Township officials acknowledge that for most property owners, storing leaf bags for once-a-month collection can be difficult. As a result, road crews will be collecting leaf bags only (paper biodegradable bags) through Dec. 9. The collection will take during the weeks that Waste Management does not pick up yard waste.

Please place your leaf bags at the curb by 6 a.m. the morning of your normal garbage/recycling day.

Community center gym reminder

The installation of a new gymnasium floor and walking track is taking place in the Hampton Community Center, with completion anticipated by Nov. 24.

Until then, the Community Center will remain open, but there will be no access to the gymnasium’s basketball courts and limited access to the track.

Church hosts ‘BOB’ concert

A “BOB” Concert — Bells, Organ and Brass — is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Nov. 20 at St. Catherine of Sweden Church, 2554 Wildwood Road, Hampton.

The event is part of the newly established Saints Martha & Mary Parish Concert Series, which will foster a deeper appreciation of sacred music through high-quality concerts that are accessible and free to all attendees. Free-will offerings are accepted.

North Park road closure

The Allegheny Parks Department announced that Lake Shore Drive in North Park is closed to vehicular, bicycle and pedestrian traffic. The closure, which is expected to end in December, is required for slope stabilization work.

Other than the J.C. Stone Field parking lot, park visitors will not be able to access any facilities, including playgrounds, adjacent to Lake Shore Drive. Shelters accessed from the road will not be available to rent during the closure.

There will be no posted detours, but drivers are encouraged to use Walter Road to get around the closure. Cyclists and pedestrians looking for an alternate paved route within the park should consider using South Ridge Drive.

The project will be done in-house by crews from the county’s Parks Department and Department of Public Works.

Spaghetti dinner set

The Elfinwild Lions Club is holding a freewill offering spaghetti dinner from 4 to 7 p.m. Nov. 12 at Elfinwild Presbyterian Church, 3200 Mt. Royal Blvd., Shaler.

The dinner includes salad, spaghetti (choice of sausage, beef or veggie sauce), breadstick, drink and dessert.
