North Park road closure
The Allegheny Parks Department announced that Lake Shore Drive in North Park will be closed to vehicular, bicycle and pedestrian traffic starting at 6 a.m. Oct. 31. The closure, which is expected to end in December, is required for slope stabilization work.
Other than the J.C. Stone Field parking lot, park visitors will not be able to access any facilities, including playgrounds, adjacent to Lake Shore Drive. Shelters accessed from the road will not be available to rent during the closure.
There will be no posted detours, but drivers are encouraged to use Walter Road to get around the closure. Cyclists and pedestrians looking for an alternate paved route within the park should consider using South Ridge Drive.
The project will be done in-house by crews from the county’s Parks Department and Department of Public Works.
