Hampton Community Library schedules variety of programs
Hampton Community Library is offering these programs:
• It’s a Wonder-ful World Drop-in Storytime! from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays through May 25. The program features stories, songs and crafts designed to celebrate discovery and interaction with the environment. All ages and abilities are welcome.
• Checkmate! from 6 to 8 p.m. May 18 in Activity Room 1. Chess Club is a casual, instructive opportunity for young people in kindergarten through 12th grade to play each other. A brief lesson will be led by instructor Benjamin Lin, 2023 state sixth-grade champion, to learn different moves and evaluate level of play. All levels of play are welcome.
• News and Views at 1 p.m. May 5 in the library. This longtime discussion group is led by local author and journalist Gerry K. Smith, with a new format inviting members to participate as guest leaders the first Friday of the month. Discussion topics are welcome from all. New members are welcome.
• Card Club from 1 to 3:30 p.m. Wednesdays.
• Murder by the Book! A Mystery Book Discussion,” 6:30 p.m. May 17, with “The Good Girl’s Guide to Murder” by Holly Jackson. The Mystery Book Group meets inside the library. Call the library at 412-684-1098 to request a copy of the book. Everyone who is interested in great reads is invited to join.
• Betty’s Book Buzz Discussion Group, 1 p.m. May 19, with “The Better Sister” by Alafair Burke. Betty’s Book Group meets in the library. Call the library at 412-684-1098 to request a copy of the book. Everyone who is interested in great reads is invited to join.
• Intro to Scrapbooking, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 15. The first hour will be creating a simple page you can take home and frame. Bring three or four pictures to get started. Marie Golio from Creative Memories will be at the library to share, teach and support fellow scrapbookers and their goals. No need to register.
• Ask a Mortgage Expert, 5 to 7 p.m. May 25. Steve Goodman, mortgage adviser with Equity Lending Group, will be at the library to answer questions about buying your dream home
• Cooks-N-Books: It’s Salad Season, 6:30 to 8 p.m. May 25. No real experience or culinary expertise is needed. The group meets in Great Room A in the Hampton Community Center. Simply check out a cookbook or magazine from the library, cook that dish and bring it to the group the evening of the discussion. Bring a copy of the recipe, as well, and sample all of the recipes. There will be a $2 fee to cover the cost of supplies.
Please note: The library will be closed May 13 for Recycle Rama and Memorial Day weekend, May 27-29.
