Hampton council results not official until certified by Allegheny County
New faces will be a part of the Hampton council after the Nov. 2 election saw two separate contests being held – with six running for three open seats for four-year terms and two candidates running for one, two-year term.
In the four-year term race, Democrat Bethany Hardin Blackburn was able to hold on to her seat with 2,786 votes, as reported on the Allegheny County Office of Elections website’s unofficial results. Incumbent Democrat Julie Fritsch also received 2,786 votes and Republican Daniel J. Sciulli had 2,704 votes.
Democrat Carolynn R. Johnson came in fourth with 2,689 votes. Fritsch will be taking the place of councilman Michael Peters, the current president of council and Scuill is poised to take the position previously occupied by Blackburn.
In the second race seeking election for a two-year term, Republican Alfred Midgley IV received 2,820 votes, beating out his Democrat opponent Richard Kernick, who received 2,814 votes. The seat was previously held by Richard Dunlap.
However, with only 15 votes separating Sciulli and Johnson and six votes separating Midgley and Kernick, the results won’t be official until Allegheny County certifies them.
The new council members will be sworn in at the Jan. 3 organization meeting.
School board
The Hampton Township School Board race was uncontested, as Jill Hamlin, Larry Vasko, Denise Balason and Gregory Stein, all cross-filed, were on the ballot seeking four seats.
