Hampton in brief: plant sale, student accolades and more
Plant sale
The Ingomar Garden Club will hold its annual fundraiser plant sale 10 a.m.-2 p.m. June 13 at the corner of Route 19 and Ingomar Road in front of Bruster’s Real Ice Cream in McCandless. A wide variety of perennials from members’ gardens, as well as garden-related crafts and flea market items will be available. Get there early for the best selection. Club members will be on hand to answer your gardening questions. They will be masked and practicing safe social distancing for your safety. The club respectfully requests that shoppers also wear face masks.
Wynn graduates IUP with 4.0
Lindsay Jo Wynn, of Allison Park, a criminology and political science major at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, completed studies in May for her bachelor’s degree with a perfect 4.0 grade point average. She is the daughter of Rachel Wynn, and is a 2016 graduate of Hampton High School. A member of the Cook Honors College, she is a Sutton Scholarship recipient and the recipient of the C. Edward Keller Scholarship. She was president of the College Democrats and vice president of the Criminology Association at IUP.
Smith graduates University of San Diego
Abigail Smith of Allison Park graduated from the University of San Diego for the 2019-2020 school year. She earned a bachelor’s degree in accountancy and supply chain management and graduated cum laude.
Clarion University recognizes scholar-athletes
Clarion University Golden Eagle student-athletes matched an incredible academic feat for the third year in a row as 51 percent of them achieved Clarion scholar-athlete status, marking the third straight year that more than half the student-athlete population hit the mark. In all, 174 student athletes earned the distinction.
To become a Clarion scholar-athlete, student-athletes must have achieved one of the following: earn a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher; attain a 3.2 GPA or higher in two consecutive semesters, in the previous year’s spring semester and this year’s fall semester; or, as a freshman or first-year transfer student, achieve a 3.2 GPA in the fall semester.
Among those honored as scholar-athletes from Allison Park are: Evan Donovan, sophomore, criminal justice, baseball; Megan Lydon, freshman, psychology, women’s basketball; and August Schmitt, senior, sport management, football.
Glass recycling
Pennsylvania Resources Council will launch its free Traveling Glass Recycling Bin Program to serve residents living in municipalities no longer accepting glass in curbside recycling collection.
It will come to the Hampton Township Community Swimming Pool lot on June 6 and June 11.
Individuals can drop off glass bottles, jars and jugs of all colors (no color sorting required). Containers should be empty and rinsed, with lids and labels still on. Bags and boxes used to deliver glass must be discarded off-site.
