Hampton officials prepping for pool season
As temperatures begin to heat up, Hampton officials are prepping for pool season with an eye on a return to fun in the sun.
“We are looking forward to opening to warm weather at 11 a.m. May 29,” Kevin Flannery, director of community services, said.
Daily admission fees range from $5 to $15, for residents and nonresidents.
Hours are 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
On weekdays, when school is in session, hours are 3 to 7 p.m.
Manager Bill Ryder said crews have been busy making sure the facility along McCully Road is ready for its debut.
The pool complex includes a heated pool with a zero-foot, walk-in area, spray feature, adult lap lanes, three slides and two diving boards. Visitors can picnic under two wooden pavilions.
“We have 41 lifeguards and will have five to 10 concession workers and cleaners on staff,” Ryder said.
Special events this year will include Christmas in July, a night swim from 7:30 to 10 p.m. June 23 and a dive-in pool movie at 9 p.m. Aug. 4 where pool-goers can float while they watch “Jurassic Park.”
The pool will be closed the first weekend in June for a swim meet.
Pending new guidance from the state, the pool’s covid-19 guidelines will be similar to last year, Flannery said.
“You have to wear masks when you come in, but you can take off them off in the water or at your seat,” Flannery said.
The pool will be providing chairs to visitors this year, something that couldn’t be managed in 2020.
“Last year, they would’ve needed to be cleaned but we are able to offer chairs this year,” he said.
Occupancy limits aren’t an issue, Flannery added, because the pool is able to accommodate 3,000 people and the largest crowd last year drew about 600.
“The concession stand will be open, and that’s a good thing,” Flannery said. “The pool is full, and we are hoping to get back to normal.”
