Hampton Public Library hosts variety of programs

Programs scheduled at Hampton Community Library include:

• “It’s a Winter Wonder World” drop-in story time, 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays starting Jan. 9.

Times are subject to going longer or shorter. Stay for all activities or for a few.

The schedule is stories and songs, 10:30; investigate and create, 10:45; stories and songs, 11; parachute play, 11:30; stories and songs, 11:50; stay and play, noon.

• News and Views, 1 p.m. Jan. 5, Feb. 2 and March 8 in the library. This discussion group is led by local author and journalist Gerry K. Smith, with a format inviting members to participate as guest leaders the First Friday of each month.

Discussion topics always are welcomed. New members are welcome to share or just listen.

• Card Club, from 1 to 3:30 p.m. Wednesdays. Players are invited for a game of 500 Bid or something new. Show your skill, teach someone a new game or just enjoy some time out with friends, new and old.

• Scrapbooking, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Jan. 15, Feb. 19 and March 18.

New to scrapbooking or maybe got away from it and looking for a reboot? Marie Golio from Creative Memories will be at the library to share, teach, and support fellow scrapbookers and their goals. Registration is not necessary.

• Murder by the Book: a Mystery Book Discussion, 6:30 p.m. Jan. 17.

This month’s book is “The Never Game” by Jeffery Deaver. Call the library at 412-684-1098 to request a copy. Everyone is invited to the discussion.

• Betty’s Book Buzz Discussion Group, 1 p.m. Jan. 19. This month’s book is “Beneath a Scarlet Sky” by Mark Sullivan. Betty’s Book Group meets in the library. Call the library at 412-684-1098 to request a copy. Everyone interested in great conversations and good reads is invited to join.

• Cooks-N-Books: “It’s in a Pot: One Pot Meals,” 6:30 to 8 p.m. Jan. 25.

Cooks-N-Books is a cookbook and food discussion group for people who love to cook and make new friends. No real experience or culinary expertise is needed, just a desire to share recipes and food. The group meets in Great Room A at the Hampton Community Center.

Participants are to check out a cookbook and cook a dish from the book and bring it to the group the evening of the discussion, along with a copy of the recipe. Those attending can sample all the dishes.

There will be a $2 fee to cover the cost of supplies.

• “Soup”er Bowl Cookoff, 1 to 3 p.m. Feb. 3. Enter your soup in the cookoff and gain bragging rights for a year. Entry fee is $10.

• A Love Story for the Ages, 6:30 p.m. Feb. 15 at the Hampton Community Center.

Hear Holocaust Center of Pittsburgh volunteer Deborah Leuchter Steuber recall her parents’ harrowing story of love and resilience during the Holocaust. The presentation will be accompanied by a 30-minute slideshow and a virtual question-and-answer via Zoom with her parents, Edith and Kurt, themselves.

There is no fee to attend. The event is presented by the Department of Community Services and Hampton Community Library.

• Save the date: Trivia Night, March 1. Get your team ready. Space will be limited. More details will follow.
