Hampton Community Library hosting bevy of activities this week

It’s National Library Week April 7 to 13 and Hampton Community Library is celebrating with a variety of things to do, find, read and eat, according to Suzanna Krispli, director of Hampton Community Library.
“National Library Week is a chance to make people aware of just how special their library is. Libraries transform lives. Whether that means you come in and use the computers to job hunt, spruce up your resume or even apply for U.S. Citizenship,” said Krispli.
The week will feature a number of activities, including a week-long bake sale to benefit the library, courtesy of the Bookends members, who are doing a lot of the promotion for National Library Week, said Krispli.
Bookends, which is the name for Hampton Community Library Friends, will be selling donated baked goods and they expect there to be a new product to buy and enjoy every day, said Nancy Connolly, a volunteer with the library and Bookends members.
“Although the items will be modestly priced, I believe we will have some delicious and inventive items because the Friends who donate them are very creative in their baking. Presentation is everything,” Connolly said.
They held a bake sale at the library’s annual chili cook-off and Connolly said it was a success. They’re hoping for the same next week.
Krispli said there will be activities in the children’s section, including a scavenger hunt in which young visitors hunt for specific items for a small prize. They may even have a hunt for adults, she said.
And look for the library’s special “Post-it Note” wall. One wall encourages people to post notes naming reasons someone loves their library and one wall for posting suggestions on programs and special events patrons would like to see at the library, said Krispli.
Also, kicking off that week is a new program through the Allegheny County Library Association. Libraries, like Hampton, will feature a “Faces of the Library – Share Your Library Story” opportunity via the Hampton library website. On there, patrons can share their personal experiences.
National Library Week is a perfect week to stop at the Hampton Community Library, but so is every other week as they provide so much, according to Krispli.
“We offer books on personal transformations, diets, and even how to keep your house from looking like an episode of Hoarders. Our space is place to gather and meet old friends or make new ones. Here at HCL we listen to your joys, tears, hopes and dreams. We get to know who you are and we don’t treat you like a number, we see you as a friend,” said Krispli.
