Hampton Township gathering names for new Gulf War Memorial
A new plaque is being planned to salute Hampton Township residents who served in the Gulf War.
It will be added to the Hampton Township Veteran’s Memorial.
The township is partnering with the Hampton Community Association and the Hampton American Legion Post 296 in collecting names of servicemembers who served on active duty during the Gulf War and live or have lived in Hampton Township.
The Hampton Township Veteran’s Memorial was opened in 2008 after moving war monuments from their former location on Mount Royal Blvd. to the site at the Hampton Community Center.
The site was chosen to allow the memorial more exposure to the community and to provide a more accessible location for any future military observances.
Any current or previous active-duty veterans or their families can submit the veteran’s information and the request to be included to the website hampton-pa.org/HamptonGulfWarVeteran. All submissions will be reviewed for eligibility and the deadline to submit is Nov. 10.
The current plan is to add the plaque to the site on Memorial Day in 2023.
