An 18-year-old Homestead man is being held without bail after state police said he stabbed a woman who described the suspect as her foster child in Whitaker Friday and fled from authorities.
Elrades Wright is charged with attempted homicide, aggravated assault, theft and related offenses.
Troopers said they were called to a home on Frank Street at 1 a.m. and found a large amount of blood inside. The 64-year-old woman was hospitalized in critical condition for treatment of multiple wounds, police said.
A Duquesne police officer who responded to the scene said the woman identified her assailant as Wright and described him as a foster child who was staying with her, according to state police. The woman told the officer that Wright attempted to drown her by holding her head in a toilet and choked her before stabbing her in the neck.
Police said Wright fled in her Volkswagen and police spotted it on Route 837 in Munhall. The driver fled a traffic stop and led officers on a high-speed pursuit before crashing in West Mifflin.
Wright was captured after attempting to flee the crash on foot.
He was being held at the Allegheny County Jail. He did not have an attorney listed in online court records. A June 16 preliminary hearing is set.
