Hours to change at Hampton Community Library
Hampton Community Library will switch to its fall schedule on Sept. 5.
Hours are 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday and Friday; 9:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday; 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday; and closed Sunday.
Programs at the library include:
• “What a Wonder-Fall World” drop-in story time, featuring stories, songs and crafts designed to celebrate discovery.
The program will be held Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays starting Sept. 12. Scheduled are Stories and Songs, 10:30, 11 and 11:50 a.m.; Investigate and Create, 10:45; Parachute Play, 11:30; and Stay and Play, noon to 12:30 p.m.
Times are subject to going longer or shorter. All ages and abilities are welcome. Stay for all activities or for a few.
• Checkmate chess club, 6 to 8 p.m. Sept. 14, Oct. 12 and Nov. 9 in Activity Room 1
The club is for children in kindergarten through 12th grade, and is led by instructor Benjamin Lin, 2023 Pennsylvania sixth-grade champion. The emphasis is on good sportsmanship and building skill level through instruction and play.
All levels of play are welcome. Registration is appreciated by calling the library at 412-684-1098.
• “You’ve Got Mail! A Cardmaking Class,” 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. Oct. 12 and Nov. 9 in the library.
Stop in and make three cards for the fall holidays. Cost is $5 for materials. Maria Golio from Creative Memories will teach the ins and out of cardmaking. Or feel free to bring a small project on which to work.
• Project Scrapbook, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 16 and Nov. 20.
Marie Golio from Creative Memories will be at the library to share, teach and support fellow scrapbookers and their goals. Registration is not necessary.
• Card club, 1 to 3:30 p.m. Wednesdays. Play 500 Bid or something new while socializing with friends, new and old.
• Local Book Club Trivia Bonanza, 6:30 p.m. Sept. 13, benefiting the the Hampton, Northern Tier and Shaler North Hills libraries.
Local libraries are teaming up to celebrate their neighborhood book clubs. The event features raffle baskets and prizes for best spread. All trivia is based on popular reads, mysteries, celebrity book clubs and related topics.

• “Murder By the Book! A Mystery Book Discussion,” 6:30 p.m. Sept. 20.
The discussion will be about “The Silent Wife,” by Karen Slaughter. The group meets at the Grubbs Pavilion in Hampton Community Park during the summer.

• Betty’s Book Buzz Discussion Group, 1 p.m. Sept. 15.
The discussion will be about “The Cliff’s Edge,” by Charles Todd. Betty’s Book Group meets in the library.

• “Cooks-N-Books: Fall ABCs,” 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. Sept. 28 in Great Room A at the Hampton Community Center. Pick a letter from the alphabet that stands for a fall favorite, such as “A” for apple and apple pie.
No real experience or culinary expertise is needed for the cookbook and food discussion group, just a desire to share recipes and food.
Check out a cookbook. Cook a dish and bring it to the group the evening of the discussion, along with a copy of the recipe, and sample all the dishes. There is a $2 fee to cover the cost of supplies.
• News and Views, 1 p.m. Oct. 6, Nov. 3 and Dec. 1 in the library.
The discussion group is led by local author and journalist Gerry K. Smith, with a new format inviting members to participate as guest leaders the first Friday of the month. Discussion topics always are welcomed, as are new members.
