Trib scholarships

Trib Total Media is accepting applications for both the Scholarship for Diversity in Media and the Jim Borden Memorial Scholarship.

The Scholarship for Diversity in Media is open to high school seniors who are culturally, ethnically or racially diverse and are planning to study journalism, communication or English writing at a four-year college or university.

The scholarship will include financial assistance of up to $7,500 per year for four years, a guaranteed annual internship with Trib Total Media and an offer for full-time employment upon graduation.

The Jim Borden Memorial Scholarship is offered to high school or college students attending — or planning to attend — a four-year college or university to study journalism, English writing or communication. The recipient will earn up to $30,000 in scholarship money awarded in annual installments of up to $7,500, an annual internship with Trib Total Media and an offer for full-time employment upon graduation.

The deadline to apply is Jan. 31.

Presents from Police

Officers in the Hampton Township Police Department are asking residents to help them make the holidays special for needy children this year by donating to the Presents from Police program.

New, unwrapped toys, gift cards and other presents for children of all ages can be dropped off at the police department or the community center until Dec. 19.

The police department and community center both located in the municipal complex at 3101 McCully Road.

Review for new Eat’n Park building on hold

Hampton council has postponed action on plans for the Eat’n Park restaurant along Route 8 to be demolished and replaced with a new building.

A review and possible vote to approve the site plan will take place at council’s Jan. 27 meeting.

The company has proposed tearing down the 7,000-square-foot building, which is about 40 years old, and building a slightly smaller one farther away from the nearby Quality Inn & Suites motel.

Eat’n Park officials said the current building is not up to company standards and described it as “a little tired.”

Operation Santa Claus

Families can have a personalized letter sent to kids from Santa at a cost of $5 with proceeds benefiting the Operation Santa Claus charity.

The letters feature a child’s name, references to items they put on their Christmas wish list and a special “PS” from Santa.

The letter will arrive on custom Santa-themed stationary and envelope along with an official “Nice” certificate and a North Pole activity sheet.

Letters can be ordered online. They will be mailed on or before Dec. 14.

Proceeds Benefit Operation Santa Claus, a cooperative effort by Trib Total Media, Shop ‘n Save and the Salvation Army to provide local families in need with all the ingredients for a nutritious and delicious holiday meal. Children in those families receive new or gently-used books.

Operation Santa Claus also is accepting donations to help families during the holidays.

Hampton families asked to survey school food service

The company that provides meals to the Hampton Township School District is asking families to participate in an online survey of the contactless, free dining program it is offering during the 2020-21 school year.

Metz Culinary Management is doing the survey to “gain better understanding” of its food distribution program to determine if changes are needed.

The survey can be completed online.
