T is for Toddler
The T is for Toddler program will be at the Rotary Pavilion on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11 to 11:30 a.m. on Sept. 8 through Oct. 27. Join for an autumn full of songs, rhymes and stories about letters and numbers. All ages welcome.
In Your Neighborhood
In Your Neighborhood will be at the Rotary Pavilion on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1 to 1:30 p.m. on Sept. 8 through Oct. 27. It will feature stories, songs, rhymes and games that focus on communities near and far. All ages welcome.
Book Banter
Book Banter (a reading club for busy families) will be held at the library. Mix and mingle with bookish neighbors while your children engage with games, puzzles and books or make a craft. Adults & teens read a book from the monthly theme (fiction, nonfiction, how-to, poetry, short story, graphic novel or more). Bring the book with you and discuss with the group. Space is limited. RSVP by phone or in person at the library to reserve a spot. Families with grade school age children and older can participate at 7 p.m. on Sept. 29, Oct. 20, Nov. 17 and Dec. 22. Families with babies and toddlers can join in at 2 p.m. on Sept. 25, Oct. 23, Nov. 20 and Dec. 18.
Read and win
• Children are encouraged to take the A-Z Challenge this fall. Read 26 books to earn a certificate and a Gold Star for your library card or have your picture displayed on the Wall of Fame. Simply read one book for each letter of the alphabet. Author names or book titles count as the letter. Sign up at the front desk starting Sept. 11. The program ends Dec. 11. Childfren in fourth grade or younger may participate.
• Tweens and teens can participate in the Lucky Number 9 book club. Sign up at the front desk starting Sept. 11. Read five books from the challenge card to earn a chance to win. Earn additional chances with each book read after five for a total of nine books. That is five chances to win. The program ends Dec. 11.
• Adult readers can grab their Bingo marker and read. In-a-row, vertical and diagonal earns one ticket, (maximum five tickets). The more you read, the more chances to win. Cards are available at the front desk starting Sept. 11, and the program ends Dec. 11.
Murder by the book
The Mystery Book Group will meet at the Rotary Pavilion at Hampton Community Park (across from the big playground nearest to the Community Center) at 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 15. The book to be discussed is “The Law of Innocence” by Michael Connelly. Books are no longer available at the circulation desk. Please call the library to request a copy of the book.
Betty’s Book Buzz
Betty’s Book Group will be meeting in the library Sept. 17 at 1 p.m. to discuss “The Henna Artist” by Alka Joshi. Books are no longer available at the circulation desk. Please call the library to request a copy of the book.
News and Views: News You Can Use
This popular discussion group is back and will be meeting at 1 p.m. in the adult lounge of the Community Center on Wednesdays from Sept. 22 to Nov. 3. Stop in once, or come for every session. There’s always something new to learn with the lively conversation group led by Gerry K. Smith, local journalist and author.
Cooks-N-Books: Farmer’s Market Delights
Cooks-n-Books, a cookbook and food discussion group for people who love to cook and make new friends, is from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Sept. 23 in Great Room A in the Hampton Community Center.
No experience or culinary expertise is needed, just a desire to share recipes and food.
Participants should check out a cookbook or magazines from the library and cook a dish from it for the group on the evening of the discussion. Each participant should bring a copy of the recipe along with the dish. Participants will then sample all of the recipes.
There will be a $2 fee to cover the cost of supplies.
