Curio Collection by Hilton labels its new Joinery Hotel Pittsburgh as “the place to be” for people who call the city home and those just passing through.
The 185-room boutique hotel will open its doors in June, in the Downtown building that currently houses Distrikt Hotel Pittsburgh at 453 Boulevard of the Allies.
Distrikt Hotel opened in 2017 in a Gothic Revival-style building constructed in 1924 to house the Salvation Army of Western Pennsylvania. It was vacant for many years before the hotel’s extensive renovations, which added new features such as a 10th-floor terrace.
Also coming this summer, T&E Diner will replace the seafood and chophouse restaurant called or, The Whale that operated in Distrikt.
A concept by Butler Hospitality with a current location in Chicago, T&E Diner is described as ““an elevated American eatery that pays homage to the first generation of workers hustling to provide in the cities that inspired them.” The menu will feature American classics including burgers, ribs and chicken tenders.
“While there won’t be any signature Pittsburgh offerings at this time, the menu will include their signature boozy milkshakes and all-day breakfast,” said Donato Coluccio, general manager of Joinery Hotel Pittsburgh.
Joinery Hotel’s lobby is designed as a neighborhood hub with an “offering table” check-in experience and refreshments, a library, board games, records and rental bikes available for guests and locals to enjoy.
The offerings will be curated with local businesses including Nicholas Coffee, Pittsburgh Winery, Voodoo Brewery, Amazing Books & Records, Get Hip Records and Thick Bikes.
“Just steps away from many of the Steel City’s attractions, the building’s location is ideal for bringing together visitors and locals alike,” Coluccio said.
The hotel also offers an art experience, with pieces collected by NINE dot ARTS, a Denver-based curatorial group that sources original art for hotels, offices, multifamily residential developments and other applications.
“The curated art collection aims to harness the spirit of Pittsburgh by symbolizing the city’s grit, rebellion and sense of community,” Coluccio said. “The hotel also plans to partner with local artists following its opening for creative programming and additional artwork to be displayed.”
Additionally, the hotel has 800 square feet of meeting and event spaces, and the 10th-floor outdoor terrace offers one-of-a-kind city views.
Curio Collection by Hilton is a “soft brand” that allows its member hotels in the United States and around the world to retain individual branding, while being supported by the Hilton Worldwide portfolio, Coluccio said.
“Each Curio Collection by Hilton hotel is part of the destination it calls home — authentically embodying the distinct culture and spirit of the community in which they reside,” Coluccio said. “Curio Collection properties appeal to travelers seeking one-of-a-kind discoveries and authentic experiences.”
