Man, 41, dies at Allegheny County Jail while awaiting arraignment
A 41-year-old man died early Friday morning at the Allegheny County Jail while awaiting an initial court appearance, jail officials said.
The man, who wasn’t identified, was brought to the jail at 6:44 p.m. Thursday.
He was accused of resisting arrest and drug offenses. He was taken to a hospital about 9:20 p.m. and returned to the jail at 12:57 a.m. Friday.
Jail staff responded to a medical emergency, and paramedics arrived around 5:30 a.m.
He was produced dead at 6:18 a.m., according to the statement from Warden Trevor Wingard.
Allegheny County Police are also investigating, and there will be an internal review, Wingard said.
