Man arrested in connection with fatal Hill District shooting in January
A Pittsburgh man was jailed Friday after being arrested on the East Busway as he fled from officers from multiple law enforcement agencies seeking to capture him in connection with the Jan. 31 fatal shooting of a man in the city’s Hill District, police said.
The suspect, Deshawn Wallace, 46, was arrested following a brief pursuit by Pittsburgh police detectives, with assistance from the U.S. Marshals Western Pennsylvania Fugitive Task Force, agents from the state Attorney General’s Office and Wilkinsburg police, Pittsburgh police said.
Wallace, is accused in the fatal shooting of Derrick Eggleton, 30, of Pittsburgh, who died at UPMC Mercy hospital shortly after being shot in the abdomen around 12:15 a.m. Jan. 31, in the 2200 block of Webster Avenue, police said.
Another man was hospitalized in stable condition on Jan. 31 after being shot in the arm. Police did not provide an update on his condition.
Investigators said ShotSpotter alerts reported 15 rounds were fired in that section of Webster Avenue, some hitting a house on Webster Avenue.
Wallace was charged with criminal homicide, aggravated assault, firearms violations and recklessly endangering another person.
He was transported to the Allegheny County Jail pending arraignment.
