A man was in critical condition Sunday after a vehicle crash and fire in a parking garage near PPG Paints Arena, according to Pittsburgh Public Safety.

Police, fire and EMS responded just before 7 p.m. to reports of a vehicle on fire in the parking garage below Chatham Tower at Fifth Avenue near Diamond Street.

First responders found a sedan that had collided with the parking garage and caught on fire, Pittsburgh Public Safety said. Firefighters put out the fire and removed the driver, who was in critical condition when taken to a hospital.

The man was alone in the car, and no other injuries were reported.

Detectives were investigating what led to the driver losing control of his vehicle, Pittsburgh Public Safety said.
