The Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office has identified Thomas F. Sunseri, 56, of Pittsburgh, as the pedestrian killed Jan. 24 after being struck by a vehicle in Pittsburgh’s Strip District.
Sunseri died at 8:22 p.m. on Jan. 24 in an area hospital following the incident, the medical examiner said.
Sunseri is not related to the owners of Jimmy & Nino Sunseri Co., a popular Italian grocery store on Penn Avenue in the Strip District, a manager there told TribLive.
First responders were dispatched to the 2100 block of Liberty Avenue around 8 p.m. the night of the incident, police spokeswoman Emily Bourne said. Responders found Sunseri in grave condition
The driver of the vehicle stayed on scene and cooperated with investigators, Bourne said. Pittsburgh police were not immediately available Wednesday afternoon to say whether charges had been filed against the drive.
On Jan. 24, Bourne said preliminary investigation indicates the victim stepped off the sidewalk and was not in a designated crosswalk.
