A man was robbed at gunpoint and pistol-whipped over the head early Sunday morning in Pittsburgh’s Shadyside neighborhood, Pittsburgh police said.

The victim, in his early 20s, was robbed in the 300 block of Morewood Avenue, while walking home around 12:45 a.m., by a man who approached him and demanded his valuables, police said. The robber fired several gunshots in the air and then hit him with a pistol after the victim gave the robber what he demanded.

The man, whom police found on the sidewalk, sustained facial lacerations and a potential head injury. He was transported to a hospital in stable condition for evaluation.

Detectives are continuing the investigation, police said.
