It didn’t take the powers that be at KDKA Radio long to find a replacement for Kevin Battle on the station’s morning show.
Marty Griffin, a sharp-tongued talk show host and well-known investigative reporter for KDKA-TV, is being moved from his mid-morning slot to the new “Big K Morning Show,” airing from 5:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. weekdays. He is replacing popular co-host Kevin Battle as Larry Richert’s on-air partner.
Battle was surprisingly let go by KDKA’s parent company Audacy Inc. in a cost-cutting measure earlier this week. His last show was on Tuesday.
“To be able to put two of the biggest names together can only be a great thing for the city and the station,” said Audacy Pittsburgh senior vice president and market manager Michael Spacciapolli.
Griffin joins Richert on the show starting Aug. 29.
Paul Zeise, who has been an evening sports talk show host on KDKA-FM – better known as 93.7 The Fan – for the past several years, will take over as the midday host from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Rick Dayton will continue to anchor the afternoon drive starting a 2 p.m. on weekdays.
“All these moves have been made to keep 100.1 FM and AM 1020 KDKA the market leader in news, talk, information and entertainment,” Spacciapolli said, calling the commitment to the region evident in the new lineup.
The move to add Griffin to the morning show was announced by Richert on Friday morning’s show with Griffin joining him in the studio.
“Together we’re going to make news and make a difference,” Griffin said.
