A kindergarten student was injured Tuesday afternoon after being hit by a school bus, McKeesport Area School District officials said.

Police and emergency services were dispatched to the corner of Soles and Stewart streets in McKeesport around 3:45 p.m., Superintendent Don MacFann wrote in a statement posted on the district’s website.

The student was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of a concussion and received six stitches behind their left ear, MacFann told TribLive on Wednesday.

The driver, an employee of Krise Transportation, is no longer on active duty, MacFann said. District and local police, as well as the bus company, are investigating.

“I’m rather new to McKeesport,” said MacFann, who started March 3, “but I am just totally pleased with how the McKeesport Police Department, the McKeesport ambulance services and district police officers were there immediately. It was truly great to see.”
