Local and federal authorities have asked for help in identifying a man they say robbed a bank in Monroeville in late August.

Citizens Bank at 4210 William Penn Highway was robbed on Aug. 28 when a man handed a teller a note. Police said he fled with an undisclosed amount of money.

No injuries were reported.

The FBI’s Pittsburgh Division and Monroeville Police described the suspect in a news release Tuesday as being a light-skinned Black man, who was pictured in surveillance photos wearing a blue Nike zip-up jacket with a thin white line across the upper chest, dark colored sweat pants with three thin white lines down the leg and a black cap with a “Mercedes Benz” logo on the front.

The man was also carrying a “Champion” fanny pack, and his right hand appeared to be wrapped in an Ace bandage.

A white Audi SUV is believed to be involved in the robbery.

Monroeville police Chief Doug Cole said police believe the man to be around 6 feet tall.

He said the fact that the suspect wore a face mask, like all the other customers and employees, makes it a bit more difficult to identify him.

“I mean, prior to (covid-19) everybody would be taking a look at him if he wore a mask. But I can say with certainty there were other employees and customers there who had no idea a robbery had occurred,” Cole said.

Cole said the robber was in and out of the bank in less than a couple of minutes.

The chief said bank robberies in Monroeville are “fairly rare.” He said the last robbery occurred in 2016 when a man robbed an S&T Bank, told tellers he had a bomb and fled. Police found him hiding in a storm water pipe near Routes 48 and 130.
