With the arrival of summer, Monroeville Public Library announces a diverse lineup of adult programming.

• On July 6 at 7 p.m., attendees can enjoy an outdoor concert featuring the Diamante Orchestra with soprano vocalist Lilly Abreu. The event will take place in person, weather permitting.

Featuring Mary Beth Malek (clarinet), Paula Tuttle (cello), Juan Jaramillo (violin), arranger Ralph Guzzi (trumpet), and rhythm players Kevin Clark (piano), Brian Stahurski (bass) and George Perilli (drums), the band will perform a repertoire of Latin, jazz, and classical crossover. Admission is free, and in case of inclement weather, the event will be rescheduled.

• Join eagle enthusiasts on July 10 at 7 p.m. for an engaging talk with Don German, an eagle advocate and U.S. Steel plant manager, who will discuss the majestic birds nesting in the Pittsburgh area.

Attendees of the hybrid event will have the opportunity to learn about the eagles’ diet, their flying patterns and potential threats they face. German will specifically highlight the aerie (eagle’s nest) at the U.S. Steel plant, providing insights into the fledglings and their parents, emphasizing the importance of biodiversity.

• Game nights will be held from 6 to 8:30 p.m. July 13 and 25 at the library. These in-person gatherings welcome game enthusiasts of all kinds, offering the chance to play a variety of board games, card games, tabletop games, and party games. Participants are invited to drop in at any time to enjoy their favorite games or discover new ones.

• Grief gatherings will take place at 7 p.m. June 28, July 19 and Aug. 23. Hosted by death doula Diana McDade, these in-person gatherings provide a safe and supportive space for individuals to come together and share their experiences with grief.

The sessions will begin with introductions and lead to open and respectful discussions. All are welcome to attend the meetings, which aim to offer emotional support, exchange information, address concerns and gain new insights into the grief process.

• On July 26 at 7 p.m., the library will host an Artist Talk: Behind the Mask, featuring Pittsburgh-based photographer and filmmaker Beth Kukucka. The event will be a hybrid of in-person and virtual attendance.

Kukucka will present her pandemic photography project, “Behind the Mask,” which explores the concept of personal identity beyond one’s location and occupation. Through her photographs, she captures individuals both with and without masks, posing the question, “Who are you behind your mask?”

The project showcases a diverse range of people from across the United States, providing a unique perspective on our experiences during the pandemic and revealing our true selves behind the masks we wear.
