Gateway High School will host the inaugural Allegheny County Chorus Festival on Oct. 10.
Modeled after similar events held in neighboring counties, the event is intended to provide an opportunity for students to experience a choral festival with singers from other schools without the requirement of preparing an audition.
Gateway choral director Erich Lascek has organized the effort and is hosting two different ensembles in the school’s facility, a soprano-alto treble chorus and a mixed soprano-alto-tenor-baritone ensemble. The groups will rehearse simultaneously and share in a performance at the end of the day.
Rather than bringing in guest conductors, participating high school choral directors will share rehearsing and conducting responsibilities. Those directors not leading the rehearsals will sit with students throughout the day and sing in the ensembles in a side-by-side setting.
A free public concert will take place at 7 p.m. in the Gateway High School auditorium.
