Gateway School District property owners will see a 1.2 mill tax increase if next school year’s budget is approved in its current form.

School directors approved advertisement of the preliminary budget at their May 20 meeting. The final budget will be adopted June 17.

Millage would raise from from 22.8507 mills to 24.0684 mills for the 2024-2025 school year under the proposal. Under the higher rate, a home with an assessed value of $100,000 would have a $2,406.84 school tax bill.

The new budget contains a 2.053% decrease in spending as compared to the 2023-2024 fiscal year.

In other business, the board:

  • Heard a presentation from Colleen Cardamone and Lisa Reed of the Gateway Education Foundation with more detailed information about its relaunch after being dormant for several years.
  • Approved quotes for Gateway Middle School from Penn Fencing of Butler for $23,593.61, from Made in the Shade Blinds of Monroeville for $59,718.45, and from Stadium Solutions of Cabot for aisle handrails for $23,760 or $26,993 (depending on installation).
  • Discussed the cost for repairing a cracked cafeteria slab and other change orders for the $35 million middle school project.

  • Approved the estimate from It’s All Clean Inc. of Pittsburgh for truck-mounted, high-pressure, hot-water washing of all stadium seating areas to remove algae, dirt, dust, stickers, atmospheric staining, chewing gum, etc., for $9,465.00.
  • Approved a $850 workshop for principals and administrators with the Fred Rogers Institute at Saint Vincent College.
