Approximately 20 students at Gateway High School belong to this year’s Chick-fil-A Leader Academy, a national program that teaches students leadership skills and empowers them to put their skills into action in local communities. Dr. Marci Klinger and Dawn Nicolazzo are the advisors. So far, students have completed four leader labs. They have learned about vision and values, servant leadership and teamwork. On Dec. 18 students provided a luncheon for workers within the school they felt were underappreciated. In attendance were cafeteria workers, custodians, secretaries, police officers, technology staff, the school nurse and administration. Senior Erika Jackson said “You teach us to work, to care, to give, to take a stand, to respect, and to serve. I couldn’t imagine going to a school where these qualities weren’t the standard for every individual in this room. I think we just wanted to show you, today, that we respect you, we care about you, and we appreciate you from the bottom of our hearts.” Food was provided by Chick-fil-A and Moio’s Italian Bakery donated a cake.
