A student found a bullet on a school bus heading to Gateway Middle School on Thursday morning.
Principal Rocco Telli said in an email blast to parents that the bus was greeted by building administration, who ushered students through bag searches and metal detectors.
“No items of concern were discovered,” Telli said in the message.
He said the district’s police are working with Monroeville Police to “investigate the situation.”
Telli said students “acted in an extremely responsible manner and quickly notified the bus driver in addition to sending an emergency tip to our Safe2Say emergency tip system.”
Safe2Say Something is a mobile app-based system that allows users to anonymously provide tips about bullying, potential threats and other complaints. The state-funded app is modeled after one Colorado created in the wake of Columbine’s 1999 school shooting.
Monroeville police Chief Doug Cole and Gateway Superintendent Bill Short were not immediately available to comment.
