Students in the Gateway High School Chick-fil-A Leader Academy participated in their “Do Good December” project on Dec. 14.

They traveled to the Children’s Home of Pittsburgh and Mario Lemieux Family Center in Bloomfield to volunteer for the day.

The students raised funds and donated numerous items to the Child’s Way Day Care program for medically fragile children. They also sang Christmas carols through the hallways of the pediatric specialty hospital and partnered with local nonprofit Pressing On to provide parent/caregiver care packages to people staying there with their children.

Also, the Gateway students served lunch to the entire staff at the Children’s Home and enjoyed helping them complete needed tasks as they learned about the mission, vision and possible career opportunities of the center.

According to adviser Regan Reeder, the experience was a fantastic day demonstrating “Impact Through Action” and servant leadership principles taught in the Leader Academy.

She and the other academy advisers, Marci Klinger and Dawn Nicolazzo, express thanks to Brian Wenger of Chick-fil-A at Miracle Mile in Monroeville for his continued generous sponsorship of Gateway’s program.

The Chick-fil-A Leader Academy is a high school leadership program sponsored by restaurant operators nationally.
