Library Fun Fest

Monroeville Public Library’s annual Fun Fest is scheduled from noon to 4 p.m. Aug. 26 on the library grounds, 4000 Gateway Campus Blvd.

A special guest this year is Daniel Tiger, son of the puppet Daniel Striped Tiger from “Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood.”

Food, beverages and tickets to inflatable rides are available for purchase, and plenty of free activities will be offered for children while a DJ plays music throughout the event.

The library gives special thanks to the event’s Gold Level sponsor, UPMC East, and Silver Level sponsors, Christ the Divine Shepherd Parish and Friends of the Monroeville Public Library.

Hard-to-recycle collection

Pennsylvania Resources Council and the Allegheny County Health Department will hold a hard-to-recycle collection event Saturday, August 26, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 26 at Next Tier Connect @ Pittsburgh East, 4350 Northern Pike, Monroeville.

For a per-item fee, residents can recycle televisions and computer monitors, printers, fluorescent tubes, small Freon appliances, and tires, with and without rims.

Paying a $5 participant fee will allow for unlimited disposal of cell and home phones, computer towers and peripheral equipment, expanded polystyrene packaging material, microwave ovens, video game consoles and DVD players.

International Women’s Club

The International Women’s Club is set to begin its 2023-24 year with a gathering at 9:30 a.m. Sept. 8 at Cross Roads Presbyterian Church, 2310 Haymaker Road.

The agenda includes a brief presentation on Cuba by Sharon Battle, a local travel agent and club member.

The club welcomes women from diverse backgrounds who share an interest in enjoying a pleasant morning of camaraderie and engaging activities.

Leadership for 2023-24 is Louise Esposito, chair, United States; Kathy Patrick, vice chair, United States; Sheena Calderwood, treasurer, Scotland; and Judy Kimblin and Valerie Wilson, England, program chairs.

Cruise supports veterans

American Legion Post 820 in Monroeville is organizing a car cruise to support homeless veterans. The event will take place from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Aug. 20 at the post home, 4339 Old William Penn Highway.

Guests are requested to park at Party Savvy and the dentist’s office located across the street. Event staff will guide traffic.

The event will feature food from local businesses, classic music and a silent auction, with proceeds dedicated to assisting homeless veterans. Individuals interested in entering a vehicle in the cruise should contact Sue at 412-372-9713 between noon and 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, before Aug. 7.
