Council schedule change
Because of the general election, the next Monroeville Citizen Night and Council Work Session is changed from its regularly scheduled Tuesday to 7 p.m. Nov. 9.
Citizen Night is for public questions and comments, and council’s monthly agenda-setting meeting follows.
Council’s regular monthly meeting is at 7 p.m. Nov. 14 at the municipal building, 2700 Monroeville Blvd.
International Women meet
International Women will meet at 9.30 a.m. Nov. 3 at Cross Roads Presbyterian Church, 2310 Haymaker Road, Monroeville.
The meeting will start with the program “How Could This Happen? My Family from the Monarchy to Today” by poet and author Helga M. Mears, born in Germany during World War II, who fled from the Russians to West Germany with her parents and older sister. In 1970, she moved to the United States, where she became a high school teacher and an adjunct at the University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg.
A welcome is extended to all women in the community, whether foreign- or American-born, who are interested in spending a morning over coffee and the program of the month.
Church service honors veterans
Hillcrest United Presbyterian Church will host a Veterans Appreciation Day service with a musical presentation during the 11 a.m. service on Nov. 12, followed by a reception.
All veterans and their families are invited to attend. The church is t 1622 James St., Monroeville.

‘Festivous Mixology’ program
Monroeville Recreation and Parks is holding a “Festivous Mixology” program for participants 21 and older from 7 to 8 p.m. Nov. 16 at the Monroeville Municipal Building.
The basics of making a balanced cocktail will be taught, and specifically how to make a festive signature cocktail for holiday entertaining.
For participants who bring children, supervision and “Festivous Jr.” themed activities for ages 4 to 12 will be provided, including reading “Celebrations Around the World” and creating their own winter button-themed greeting cards.
Cost is $10 for the adult program and $5 for the children’s program. Registration deadline is Nov. 9 at www.monroeville.pa.us/165/Parks-Recreation or by visiting the municipal building, 2700 Monroeville Blvd., between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Thanksgiving meals delivered
Garden City United Methodist Church, 500 Laurel Drive, Monroeville, is providing a free Thanksgiving dinner, delivery only, within Gateway School District.
If you or someone you know would like a dinner to be delivered, call the church office at 412-373-0391 between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. Monday, Wednesday or Friday, or visit www.facebook.com/gardencityumc. Registration is required, and the deadline is 5 p.m. Nov. 12.
Thanksgiving dinner set
Christ the Divine Shepherd Parish is sponsoring a free Thanksgiving dinner for those who otherwise would eat alone on the holiday.
Located at 245 Azalea Drive in Monroeville, the church will serve dinner in the Lourdes Center from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. or until the food is gone on Nov. 23.
Food pantry distributions
The Garden City Food Pantry distributes food on the second Thursday of each month, with morning distribution from 9 to 11 and evening distribution from 6 to 7.
Upcoming distributions are Nov. 9 and Dec. 14 at 500 Laurel Drive, Monroeville.
