International Day of Peace
The Rotary Club of Monroeville is coordinating an International Day of Peace event from noon to 2 p.m. Sept. 23 at Monroeville Park West, 2399 Tilbrook Road.
Featured will be ethnic food trucks, cultural music, free Kona Ice and family activities. Feel free to wear your ethnic attire and bring your family and friends as the community comes together to create a brighter future for all.

Meet and greet candidates
Four Gateway School Board candidates invite both Democrat and Republican voters to a free meet-and-greet at 10 a.m. Sept. 9 at the Vault Coffeehouse, 550 Broadway Blvd., Pitcairn.
The candidates are Cheryl Boise, George Lapcevich, Kelly Matrazzo and John Ritter. They invite residents of Monroeville and Pitcairn to learn about them and their policy proposals for Gateway School District. No RSVP is required.
Another meet-and-greet, for Monroeville Council Ward 2 candidate Tim Lionelli, is scheduled for 7 p.m. Sept. 13 at the home of Fred Carlson, 118 Monticello Drive. All Ward 2 voters regardless of party affiliation are invited and welcome. No RSVP is required, and refreshments will be provided.
Library hosts trivia night
Monroeville Public Library will host a trivia night on Sept. 23, with doors opening at 6 o’clock and the game starting at 7, for participants ages 21 and older.
There will be a cash prize of $100 for the first-place team and $50 for second. Light snacks and drinks are included in the ticket price. There will also be food available for purchase, including a nacho bar and bake sale table. Tickets for a variety of raffle baskets and for a 50/50 drawing will be for sale.
At intermission will be a separate bonus trivia game with a prize for the winning table.

Hillcrest yard sale
A yard sale featuring baked goods and crafts is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 23 at Hillcrest United Presbyterian Church, 1622 James St., Monroeville.
Food pantry distributions
The Garden City Food Pantry distributes food on the second Thursday of each month, with morning distribution from 9 to 11 and evening distribution from 6 to 7.
Upcoming distributions are Sept. 14, Oct. 12, Nov. 9 and Dec. 14 at 500 Laurel Drive, Monroeville.
R&B musician at AARP
Plum AARP will hold the first meeting of the new season beginning at noon Sept. 12 at Unity Community Church, 215 Unity Trestle Road.
The program will be musician Twan Moore performing rhythm and blues. Cake, coffee and tea will be served following the business meeting. If not already paid, 2023-24 dues of $15 are due.
Plum AARP is a social/service club open to residents of Plum, Penn Hills, Monroeville and surrounding areas. Meetings are held at noon on the second Tuesday of each month, except July, at Unity Community Church.
