A community Christmas party will be held at the Pitcairn Borough Park Building from 2 to 6 p.m. Dec. 9.

This event is being hosted by the Well Corporation of Pennsylvania, Rehoboth House of Prayer for All Nations in Monroeville, Pitcairn Assembly of God and Christian Life Church in Trafford.

The party is a free, and everyone is welcome. There will be a spaghetti dinner with dessert, games and activities for kids, music and Christmas caroling, and maybe most importantly, a message of hope.

“Pitcairn is in need of an uplifting,” said David Lersch, CEO of the Well Corporation. “This is a Christmas party, but it’s also an outreach event. We want to share the love, bring people together and spread the message of Jesus.”

The Well Corporation is a nonprofit street ministry with the first priority of providing spiritual needs to members of the community. Additionally, the organization aids people in crisis and offers assistance to those in need of counseling services and substance abuse support, along with providing furniture, clothing and groceries to those experiencing hardship.

“There will be many special resources available at the event,” Lersch said.

The Allegheny Intermediate Unit’s East Allegheny Family Center will be represented at the party. The AIU’s public education agency provides specialized services to Allegheny County’s schools, including public, private, charter and vocational-technical schools. According to AIU website, the agency operates three schools for exceptional children, 10 family centers and about 130 programs for children, adults and families.

The faith-based rehabilitation program Pennsylvania Adult Teen Challenge will also be at the Christmas party. The organization, which began in 1962, helps young people and adults who are struggling with addiction, offering services from detox to outpatient treatment programs. According to Lersch, there will be a guest speaker to discuss his substance abuse journey.

The Rev. Richard Rochkind, outreach specialist with Adult Teen Challenge, and the Rev. Bob Morgan, pastor of Pitcairn Assembly of God, will be in attendance, as well.

Lersch, a Desert Storm veteran, said there will also be a veterans’ program available. Serving veterans is part of the Well Corporation’s mission statement.

The Pitcairn Borough Park Building is at 549 Broadway Blvd.
