Scottish Heritage celebration

Bagpiper Matt Peterson, Scottish dancer Katie Janeiro and vocalist Bridget Steele highlight Hillcrest United Presbyterian Church’s Scottish Heritage Day celebration on May 7 at 1622 James St., Monroeville.

The 11 a.m. worship service will remember the 1560 origins of the Presbyterian Church in Scotland. Shortbread, scones, Scottish baked goods and tea will be served following the service on the church’s courtyard, as Peterson performs traditional Scottish selections, with Janeiro dancing to two of them.

Scottish Heritage Sunday is both a congregation celebration of its founding faith principles and witness, as well as a community celebration of Presbyterian culture, its story and the importance of its religious contribution to current American life.
