Hard-to-recycle collection
Pennsylvania Resources Council and the Allegheny County Health Department will hold a hard-to-recycle collection event from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 26 at Next Tier Connect @ Pittsburgh East, 4350 Northern Pike, Monroeville.
For a per-item fee, residents can recycle televisions and computer monitors, printers, fluorescent tubes, small freon appliances, and tires, with and without rims.
Paying a $5 participant fee will allow for unlimited disposal of cell and home phones, computer towers and peripheral equipment, expanded polystyrene packaging material, microwave ovens, video game consoles and DVD players.

Library Fun Fest
Monroeville Public Library’s annual Fun Fest is scheduled from noon to 4 p.m. Aug. 26 on the library grounds, 4000 Gateway Campus Blvd.
Food, beverages and tickets to inflatable rides are available for purchase, and plenty of free activities will be offered for children while a DJ plays music throughout the event.
The library gives special thanks to the event’s Gold Level sponsor, UPMC East, and Silver Level sponsors, Christ the Divine Shepherd Parish and Friends of the Monroeville Public Library.

Monroeville Jazz Festival
The 20th-anniversary celebration of the Monroeville Jazz Festival will be held from 1 to 8 p.m. Sept. 2 at the Tall Trees Amphitheatre in Monroeville Community Park West.
There is no fee to attend, and guests are reminded to bring blankets and chairs.
International Women’s Club
The International Women’s Club is set to begin its 2023-24 year with a gathering at 9:30 a.m. Sept. 8 at Cross Roads Presbyterian Church, 2310 Haymaker Road.
The agenda includes a brief presentation on Cuba by Sharon Battle, a local travel agent and club member.
The club welcomes women from diverse backgrounds who share an interest in enjoying a pleasant morning of camaraderie and engaging activities.
Leadership for 2023-24 is Louise Esposito, chair, United States; Kathy Patrick, vice chair, United States; Sheena Calderwood, treasurer, Scotland; and Judy Kimblin and Valerie Wilson, England, program chairs.
Academy accepting students
Divine Mercy Academy in Monroeville is accepting students in all grades from preschool age 3 through eighth grade.

Hillcrest yard sale
A yard sale featuring baked goods and crafts is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 23 at Hillcrest United Presbyterian Church, 1622 James St., Monroeville.
Food pantry distributions
The Garden City Food Pantry distributes food on the second Thursday of each month, with morning distribution from 9 to 11 and evening distribution from 6 to 7.
Upcoming distributions are Sept. 14, Oct. 12, Nov. 9 and Dec. 14 at 500 Laurel Drive, Monroeville.
