Christmas cookie walk

Monroeville United Methodist Church Youth Group is hosting a Christmas cookie walk for the community from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Dec. 16, or until the cookies run out. There will be a large variety made by the youth and church members. Cookies are $10 per pound. For more information, call 412-372-7474.

Hillcrest Christmas party

A “Pizza, Popcorn and PJs” Christmas party for kids will be hosted from 6 to 9 p.m. Dec. 15 at Hillcrest Church, 1622 James St., Monroeville.

The event is geared toward children ages 4 to 12, and under 4 with a parent. Everyone is encouraged to wear Christmas-themed or any warm winter pajamas. After pizza, craft time and Christmas bingo with prizes, “The Star,” an animated holiday film approved for all ages, will be shown.

RSVP by calling the church, 412 824-5600. Please include children’s names, how many adults will be staying with them and a phone number.

Christmas dinner

Christ the Divine Shepherd Parish will host a Christmas community dinner Dec. 25 in the Lourdes Center at 245 Azalea Drive, Monroeville.

Dinner will be served from 12:30 to 3 p.m. or until the food is gone.

Rotary scholarship

The Bob Williams Rotary Memorial Scholarship Program announces the availability of scholarships for 2023-24.

In recent years, at least eight scholarships of $5,000 each have been awarded. High school seniors in Allegheny and Beaver counties are eligible to apply. Vocational students, GED students and those attending parochial, charter and private schools also are eligible.

Students must have a 2.5 or higher grade point average and must complete an essay that highlights their community/school service as part of the application submission.

New Year’s Eve ball drop

Can’t stay up until midnight on New Year’s Eve? The Monroeville Public Library will present a ball drop at noon inside the Monroeville Mall on Dec. 31.

The free event for all ages will be held inside the lower mall level, in front of Dick’s Sporting Goods, beginning at 11:30 a.m. At noon, a giant disco ball will be lowered. There will be a raffle, party hats and horn blowers.

Students commended

State Rep. Brandon Markosek, D-Monroeville, will recognize the community service efforts of three students from Forbes Road Career and Technology Center at 11 a.m. Dec. 18 at 607 Beatty Road, Monroeville.

The students have demonstrated exceptional dedication to promoting cybersecurity and cyber awareness within local communities and schools.
